We have told you before about the horrible lives of street dogs in the Bosnian city of Trebinje. If a homeless dog is captured in Trebinje then the poor dog is considered vermin and handed over to the city’s garbage unit to be dealt with as rubbish. The poor dogs are taken to the city’s garbage dump, penned in, and left there to suffer until they die.

The horror of it is literally SICKENING!

The dogs live amid blizzards of flies and the stench of burning waste. They live in cruel sun in summer and freeze in snow and icy rain during winter. They have NO HOPE of being adopted because townspeople avoid going anywhere near the stench and flies of the garbage dump.

Once a dog is homeless, they become ‘vermin’ and their lives are one long tortured misery, ending in sad and lonely deaths.

Can you imagine being locked up in filth, tortured by flies, with no hope of ever escaping until you die? No creature deserves such treatment. We saw the utter horror of this nightmare for dogs and were so moved that we acted immediately to end it.

We reached out to the local authorities and made them an offer: if the authorities agreed to stop treating dogs as rubbish, we would ask our supporters to help build a modern shelter where the dogs would be happy and have a chance of finding forever homes. They agreed to the deal, donated a piece of land, and gave full support for the project.

As you read this, there are 67 dogs on the rubbish dump. Many have skin problems and other diseases caused by flies and other parasites eating away at them, and each day they stay there, they are more likely to get sick and die. Legally, they can’t be moved until the new shelter is built, and besides the legal problem, there is nowhere else for them to go. Their only hope is if animal lovers like you donate to get the shelter finished. Your donation can be their salvation.

If we can raise $20,000 (£17,000), we can keep the builders working. It’s winter now - it is cold, wet and windy on the rubbish dump, and to make it worse, the flies will continue to hatch to add yet more torment to the lives of innocent dogs, who were either abandoned by their owners or born on the streets.

We are working as hard as we can to get these 67 dogs off the rubbish dump and to a haven, and to prevent future homeless dogs from suffering as they have. Your donation will let us keep working. We have a solution – the dogs just need the help of animal lovers like you to make it happen.

No dog should live amidst rotten produce, swarmed by biting flies and living exposed to cruel weather. Please donate right now and we promise we will get them a new, modern shelter.

P.S. This shelter will save the lives of homeless dogs in Trebinje for generations to come. It will also demonstrate to authorities in other towns and cities that there are better ways of dealing with homeless dogs than throwing them out with the garbage. Your donation will do SO much good and offer the hope of happiness to hapless dogs who have never known anything but suffering. Please, donate today.
