Described as a “concentration camp” for animals, hungry bellies, sickness, and despair are rife in the Hillview township in Cape Town, South Africa.

With your support, we have managed to save thousands of dogs and cats routinely starved, beaten, and violently abused. But so many more need our help - please consider donating to help us save these animals.

Cape Town’s Hillview area is suffocated by desperation, poverty, drug-related violence and gang murders. There is disastrous over-crowding, with large families living in a maze of tiny shacks, and innocent dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, are left to scavenge the street to survive.

Making the problem worse is the fact that so many are unsterilized, leading to countless unwanted puppies born every few months, fuelling cruelty for generations to come.

Moving with armed guards and a police escort, and our partners on the ground, TEARS Animal Rescue, we enter these hell zones regularly, risking our lives to rescue animals that desperately need our help.

Commonplace cruelty is routine in Hillview and the dogs and cats know it and try their best to save their puppies and kittens. During our outreach work, residents pointed us in the direction of a poor, emaciated mother, who we named Milly. In a frantic attempt to protect her babies, she had dragged the pups behind a shack.

Just skin and bones, this brave mamma was petrified and snarled at us as we tried to approach. People, to her, meant danger. And she would risk her own life to protect her babies.

Finally, we calmed her down but found, to our horror, that four of her puppies had suffocated to death, smothered by the filthy sand as Milly tried to hide them.

We immediately rushed her and the three surviving puppies to the TEARS vehicle to get help.

While we were taking other animals to be spayed and neutered, and for medical care, local gangsters threatened us, and we were warned by our security team to leave immediately.

Despite the dangers, we will NEVER stop helping these animals, and threats on our own lives cannot strip us of our determination to continue being a voice for the voiceless.

We go where others will not and we do it because we cannot let animals endure this hell, alone. But we can’t do it without your help. So please give generously to Network for Animals today, so we can continue this dangerous but critical work.

Without the means to provide proper care, these animals are vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, abandonment and wanton cruelty - especially in times of recession. With the coronavirus tightening its grip around the world, the numbers of animals suffering in Hillview has exploded.

Your donation will help us to provide food, medical treatment, and to implement spay and neuter programs that will ensure that no animal will be born into this hell if we can help it.

P.S. They say you have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you. At the end of the day, those who fight for animals do not look for glory or praise; their goal - your and our goal together - is to make a difference, to save innocent lives. Every animal you help us save in Hillview is one less life left to suffer and die. Please donate today and help NFA continue our lifesaving work. Thank you so much.
