Goldie, the rescued badger cub

  • April 5, 2017

Field Report from Bob Speechley of Cornwall Badger Rescue
The rescue of a baby badger cub found cold, hungry and abandoned on moorland at Madron, near Penzance, was of special significance to members of Cornwall Badger Rescue and the Brock Badger Group.

For the tiny five-week-old female, found by a woman out walking with her terrier, was the 50th to be rescued by the group since it was launched five years ago so they called her Goldie.

Founder Bob Speechley of Porthia Road, St Ives, said Goldie had been left for a couple of hours to see if her mum would return but when she did not they took her in and bottle fed her until she was nine weeks old.

“Goldie has now been sent to Secret World Wildlife Rescue in Somerset where she will complete her weaning and be reared until she is ready to be released back into the wild,” he said.

“She will be good company for another baby badger which arrived at Secret World recently,” said Bob.
