Your Donations In ACTION for Valda’s Cats In Zimbabwe!

Last year, we told you the heartbreaking story of a colony of cats and kittens in Zimbabwe who were at grave risk of being poisoned by a cold-hearted hotel manager.

Fortunately, compassionate pensioner Valda Cohen stepped in to save the animals from suffering an excruciating death. Valda devoted her whole heart and home to these cats, even going so far as to renovate derelict parts of her property so that the cats would have a suitable area to take shelter and play. Valda reached out to us with a desperate plea for help, and with your support, we were able to send an urgent donation towards food and veterinary care. Alas, Valda’s heart is as big as her pocket is poor, and she simply couldn’t afford to continue sustaining as many as 80 cats and kittens alone.

Recently, Valda reached out to us for further support, and so we turned to you once again…

Together with Cat Rescue Zimbabwe (CRZ), a non-profit voluntary organization run by a group of cat lovers, and our long-standing partner Matabeleland Animal Rescue & Equine Sanctuary (MARES), we devised an emergency plan for Valda’s cats. Upon arrival, CRZ found that there were actually 151 cats, and worked around the clock for almost five days to trap them. The team was then able to provide those in need with veterinary care, including sterilization and vaccination against deadly diseases. Our true long-term hope for these animals, however, was to see as many of them as possible find their fur-ever homes. It warms our hearts, as we’re sure it will yours, to learn that two of the cats, Naartjie and Snowflake, have been adopted by a loving family!

The tiny kittens now live in Harare alongside furry friend Nugget, who is showing them the ropes of their new home life.
