It has been an exciting couple of weeks in London working on the badger cull campaign.  After securing the Backbench Business Debate on the badger cull following the success of the e-petition, we worked hard with our friends at Team Badger to ensure that as many MPs as possible committed to attending a debate in Parliament and were able to stay and vote against the cull.

Some of the organisations in Team Badger also held a joint Lobby of Parliament the day before the debate to increase awareness of it.  We asked supporters to write to their MP expressing their intention to visit them in person and then coordinated so that they arrived at Parliament simultaneously to help build on the atmosphere of growing opposition to the Government’s plans.

Central Lobby was bustling with people wearing black and white or badges saying ‘stop the cull’, the majority of whom got to meet their MP face to face and discuss their feelings on the cull. Bill Oddie spoke to some people gathered in a committee room, while later in the day others were addressed by a farmer, Steve Jones, who tackled TB on his farm using biosecurity. There was a great feeling of solidarity as people gathered to discuss the issue and the pace was set for the debate the following day.

You can read more about the debate and its outcome on our news page, but needless to say it was an excellent result for badgers and all those campaigning hard to ensure the cull did not commence this year.  In light of this success, we thought you might wish to contact your MP and thank them for their involvement in the campaign if they attended and voted in the debate.

Below is a list of MPs and how they voted and here you can find a pre-written letter to MPs reminding them of the need to implement effective alternatives for controlling TB as soon as possible so that the cull is cancelled for good.  If your MP voted against the cull, you may wish to include a comment thanking them!
