We are fighting to keep alive 12 adult ponies and three babies who faced being shot in England… and we are winning! But we aren’t done…

12 ponies were hapless victims when their owner was evicted from his land. He had no money to feed the ponies and so abandoned them.

The ponies were left to starve in a barren field until they could be shot!

The three baby ponies are victims of a round up by local herders that went wrong. The ponies lived on Dartmoor, a rugged wilderness, where they roam free and are rounded up from time to time for health checks.

Our three baby ponies became separated from their wild moorland mothers and are too young to fend for themselves. Usually, captured ponies are shot and sold off to zoos for their meat.

When our partner, The Hugs Foundation, near Bodmin Moor (another wilderness), heard about the situation, they rushed to the rescue even though they were already financially stretched. We then jumped in and promised our help too.

The biggest challenge is to keep the ponies alive through winter…

Winters on Bodmin Moor are long, very cold and wet, with extremely strong, cutting winds.

We asked our supporters to help Hugs build shelters to protect the ponies during the winter months - and they responded magnificently, and we have just given Hugs £5,000 (about $6,750) to create shelter for young, vulnerable and elderly ponies who are most at risk. Construction will begin as soon as possible.

To each and every one of you who donated to help these sweet, gentle creatures: THANK YOU so very much. It is only because of kind people like you that these ponies will be warm and happy this winter. We dread to think what would have happened to them without people like you.

Hugs still has much work to do - the ponies need blankets and always need food, and Hugs would dearly like to create another shelter to help other ponies.

We have promised that if our supporters allow it, we will donate even more to Hugs so they can carry on their good work.

Once again, to all our supporters: THANK YOU - because of you, these lovable creatures will have the best Christmas present possible - life itself!

For the animals,

P.S. Ponies have lived on Dartmoor for thousands of years. It is so sad that their numbers are dwindling, and that they can end up as lion food in zoos. Please help keep our Dartmoor Dozen safe by donating today. The ponies have wonderful natures, are cheeky, determined, loyal and, of course, forever hungry!
