Remember we told you about the Friend Animal Foundation (FAF) in Zimbabwe? The shelter was in such serious trouble that it was about to shut down - a certain death sentence for more than 500 animals. Network for Animals (NFA) immediately rushed to the rescue, sending funds to pay wages and food for the dogs.
The good news is that the situation has improved, but the animals are still in peril. We need to continue to provide life-saving food and care to the dogs and cats who live there. For many of the dogs, this is their forever home.

While our team was delivering food to the dogs and cats, we made a special visit to Bessie, a dog with an injured leg whom we met on a previous visit. We hadn't been able to stop thinking about her.
Poor Bessie’s leg was mangled, scarred and unable to bend.
What happened to Bessie is so cruel. Some months ago, her leg was badly broken when her owner drove a car over her. They kept her for a while, eventually deciding to get rid of her.
They dumped her at FAF with a broken, deformed leg dragging behind her. Sweet Bessie was welcomed with open arms at FAF and shown kindness and love - probably the first time in her life she'd experienced human compassion.
Bessie needed an expensive operation to live her life
free of pain and suffering…
Bessie was severely injured and although vets fought to save it, her leg had to be removed. We rushed emergency funds to pay for the life-saving operation. Bessie is now a three-legged wonder, visibly getting better every day. She has formed a special bond with her caregiver, Ephraim Mupangani, that is very moving to witness. She stares up at him with absolute trust and love. Despite all the cruelty she has been shown, this brave girl still has a tremendous capacity for love.
Sadly, she is unlikely to ever be adopted and will most likely live at the shelter for the rest of her life. Please donate towards her food, love and forever care. She deserves it.
