Namibia Horse Rescue Update: Food Rushed To Horses; Mother And Baby Reunited!

Namibia horse rescue update: Last week, we told you about the 32 horses and 3 foals that we helped rescue from drowning in the Orange River, on the border of South Africa and Namibia.

The majority of the horses are still on the main island, but for one astounding exception: during the chaotic rescue, one of the foals was separated from the herd. Although this baby was taken to safety, it had nonetheless been separated from its mom – at the time, given the extremely dangerous conditions, it was the only option for saving its life. We’ve just received the incredible news from our partner on the ground, Have A Heart Equine Sanctuary (HAHES), that the foal’s mother braved the still-swollen Orange River to get to her baby. She arrived safely and the two have been reunited. A mother’s love can never be underestimated!

The remaining horses are safe but still on the main island, where food isn’t readily available. Thanks to your donations, we were able to fund HAHES’ delivery of 20 bales of hay to these animals. They immediately began to graze when the food arrived, so grateful to have full bellies and nutritious food to eat. As soon as it is safe to do so, they’ll be transferred to the mainland where they’ll be assessed and treated by vets.

Your donations have made it possible to provide much-needed food and care to these horses who have already survived so much hardship. You can read the original story and watch the heart-stopping footage here.
