Venezuela

Rushing emergency relief to animals caught up in disaster

On June 24, two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela just seconds apart. As always, we sprang into action immediately to help trapped, injured, hungry and displaced animals. NFA partnered with local organization Red de Apoyo Canino. Thanks to our supporters’ generosity, we’ve provided emergency funding for life-saving food, veterinary care and live cat and dog traps so stray and injured animals can be safely rescued and transported for treatment.

As urgent needs continue to emerge, we’ll keep working alongside our local partner to coordinate animal welfare efforts and ensure vital support reaches the animals who need it most. Thank you for being a hero for Venezuela’s animals in their darkest and most desperate hour of need.

Zimbabwe

Building a new home for 700 rescued animals

Our partner, the Friend Animal Foundation (FAF), is Zimbabwe’s largest no-kill animal sanctuary and cares for more than 700 dogs, cats and farm animals rescued from abandonment, abuse and neglect. For many of the animals, FAF is the only loving home they have ever known. After years of outgrowing its ageing facilities, an unexpected forced move earlier this year created the opportunity to build a new sanctuary.

While construction has begun, vital work remains to ensure the animals can be safely relocated – but funds ran out. Thanks to our donors’ help, we will be contributing toward the completion of the new sanctuary, bringing hundreds of animals one step closer to having the safe, secure home they deserve.

Tanzania

Protecting 1,200 donkeys from hunger and disease

In July, our partner, the Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organization (LAZAWO), alerted us to a double disaster affecting 1,200 donkeys in the artisanal gold-mining community of Mgusu, Tanzania. A devastating drought has left grazing land barren, leaving the animals dangerously short of food, while a surge in deadly tetanus cases is putting the animals at risk of suffering and preventable death. Already, 14 donkeys have died.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve launched an emergency response program to help. Funds have already been sent to provide weekly supplementary feed for the donkeys over the next six to eight weeks, while a mass tetanus vaccination campaign is being carefully planned and will begin in the coming weeks.
