From animals rescued from war and natural disasters to donkeys receiving life-saving care and dogs finding the freedom to run again – your support is changing animal lives worldwide.

Here is what our supporters made possible for animals in August.

Druzhkivka, Ukraine

Rescuing vulnerable animals from the frontline of war

Animals are trapped in the town of Druzhkivka, just eight miles (13 kilometres) from some of the heaviest fighting in Ukraine. Russian forces have recently intensified drone and missile attacks in the area, forcing families to flee for their lives and leaving terrified dogs and cats behind in empty streets and devastated homes.

Our partner, Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK), was ready to rescue them, but needed our help to make the costly and dangerous missions possible. Thanks to our supporters, we rushed funds to keep our team’s animal ambulance on the move, rescuing dogs and cats who have lost everything and giving them a second chance.

Recently, Ruslan Horbal, our fearless rescuer of animals from the Ukraine frontline, was badly injured in a drone attack on his animal ambulance. Caracas, Venezuela

Emergency aid reaches animals affected by Venezuela earthquakes

As soon as we heard news of the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, we released emergency funds and mobilized our team to provide immediate support.

Working alongside our local partners and frontline veterinary teams, we helped source and deliver urgently needed medicines and veterinary supplies to the earthquake zone. Clinics and veterinarians treating injured animals had critically low stocks, while the cost of essential medication had skyrocketed. Our team also provided additional practical support that was needed on the ground.

Among the survivors was Cacique, a small Venezuelan cat found alive in the rubble of a tall building so badly damaged that it had to be demolished. Injured, confused and exhausted, Cacique had somehow survived its collapse.

Although the earthquakes have ended, their impact on animals continues. Cacique and countless others still need medication, veterinary treatment, food and ongoing care as they recover.

Thanks to the compassion of our donors, we have been able to support life-saving rescues and help veterinary teams care for animals affected by this deadly disaster – both during the immediate emergency and throughout the difficult recovery that followed.

Harare, Zimbabwe

Funding a doggy wheelchair for brave, disabled Skippy

In August, we told our supporters about Skippy – a two-year-old Greyhound mix in urgent need of a specialized doggy wheelchair. Skippy was hit by a car when he was just a puppy, and only his back legs function. Yet every morning, he wakes up eager to run and play with the other dogs in the care of our partner, Rural Animal Care (RAC) in Zimbabwe.

Thanks to our supporters, we raised enough to fund Skippy’s wheelchair! It is currently being manufactured and should be ready for delivery within the next week. The wheelchair will support Skippy’s disabled body and help him move more comfortably, safely and independently. It will allow him to explore, play with his friends and experience the simple joy of moving freely.
