Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK)
Animals Trapped in Ukraine's War Zone Need Urgent Rescue
As missiles fall and frontline towns are reduced to rubble, thousands of dogs and cats are abandoned . Injured, starving and terrified, they have nowhere to turn. Our rescue teams risk their lives to help them — but they cannot do it without your help.
Why we help them
The war in Ukraine is devastating communities and animals are paying a terrible price.
As families flee advancing violence, many beloved pets are left behind. Shelters are overwhelmed, veterinary supplies are scarce and rescue teams face constant danger from drone strikes, shelling and active combat.
What happens
Across Ukraine, animals are trapped on the front lines of war.
Dogs and cats are being found:
- Injured by explosions and shrapnel
- Starving in abandoned homes
- Hiding in bombed-out buildings
- Wandering destroyed villages in search of food
- Suffering without access to medical care
Our partner, Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK), regularly enters active war zones to rescue animals from some of the most dangerous areas in the country.
Many rescues happen under the cover of darkness to avoid drone attacks.
How your support helps
Your donation helps fund life-saving rescue operations, including:
- Emergency evacuations from frontline communities
- Veterinary treatment and surgery for wounded animals
- Food and shelter for rescued dogs and cats
- Fuel and maintenance for rescue vehicles
- Medical supplies and equipment
- Safe transport to shelters and sanctuaries
Every rescue mission gives vulnerable animals a second chance at life.
The crisis in Ukraine is not over
Four years into the conflict, the need is greater than ever.
Russian action continues to force evacuations and leave more animals behind.
Our animal ambulances have been damaged by gunfire, drone attacks and dangerous road conditions. Shelters are overcrowded and veterinary teams are struggling to keep up with the growing number of injured animals.
While many organizations have moved on, we remain committed to helping Ukraine’s animals for as long as they need us.
How you can help today
Your support today can help us:
- Keep rescue vehicles on the road
- Deliver emergency veterinary care
- Provide food to hungry animals
- Expand shelter capacity
- Equip frontline rescue teams
- Respond rapidly to urgent calls for help
Without donor support, many rescue missions simply cannot happen.
You can make a difference
Animals do not understand war.
They do not know why their homes are gone, why their families disappeared or why bombs continue to fall around them.
What they do understand is kindness.
With your support, we can rescue animals from the front lines, treat their injuries and give them the safety and comfort they desperately need.
