Cat lovers are extraordinary people who have a unique relationship with these beautiful, loving creatures. As cat lovers ourselves, we are asking for your help today to bring health and safety to the street cats of an entire Greek island. They need help right now.

The small and rugged island of Ithaca is famous in ancient Greek history for being the home of Odysseus, a legendary Greek king. With no airport and a very small population. One can only get there by ferry.

Over the years, pet cats were left to breed and every village has a small population of street cats. These cats are usually cared for by local cat lovers, but there is no vet on the island. And with COVID, no vet has visited the island for nearly TWO YEARS.

Some cats are sick, but the bigger problem is the urgent need for a spay and neuter program to prevent a population explosion.

We know that many of our supporters who share their home with a very special cat (or dog) will appreciate that Ithaca is an island of cats in special need.

Local cat lovers have begged for our help to care for the cats because no one wants to see them die!

We have managed to find a vet on the nearby island of Kefalonia who has promised to visit Ithaca and conduct a health clinic and spay-neuter program for the cats - if we agree to pay for his sea transfer and $50 (£35) per cat. He’s promised to sterilize at least 100 cats over three visits.

And, if we can find the money to continue the program, he will keep returning until ALL the cats on the island are sterilized. (Naturally, if cats need special medical care, we will do our best to find the funds to pay for their transport to a clinic in Kefalonia, where they will get the treatment they need.)

How often can you say you helped an entire island of cats? It’s truly a great thing to do!

Ithaca cat lovers are very excited about our plans. The island is pretty much a forgotten corner of Greece and for the people who live there (who are not wealthy), our help is something of a miracle.

We can only help the cats with your support. We need to raise $5,000 (£3,500) as quickly as possible. If you can possibly donate today, it will be a unique gesture for which the islanders and every cat there will be grateful.

Please, this is something special we can do for cats. Any donation, small or large, will help. Together, we can help make the Island of Ithaca a haven of happiness for cats.

For the animals,

P.S. Domestic cats have lived in this part of Greece for more than 2,500 years (after they were introduced to the Greeks by Phoenician traders). Together, we can do our part as cat lovers to make sure that the descendants of the original cat settlers remain on their island, healthy, happy, and spayed or neutered! Please donate today. We’ll let you know how it all turns out.
