Earlier this week, violent storms battered Cape Town, South Africa, unleashing devastating floods and destructive winds that claimed lives, displaced thousands of people and left countless animals fighting to survive.
Right now, cold, hungry and terrified dogs and cats are suffering in the aftermath of this disaster – and they DESPERATELY need your help today.
For Cape Town’s vulnerable animals, the storm was terrifying.
The devastating storms were so bad a national disaster was declared. Torrential rain and ferocious winds reaching 75 mph (120 km/h) ripped roofs from homes, toppled trees and sent freezing floodwaters sweeping through impoverished areas where many dogs are often chained outside with no way to escape.

Dogs and cats were left trapped in icy, waterlogged yards without shelter from the bitter cold. Many are hungry, injured, displaced and extremely susceptible to disease and infection. Others narrowly escaped death from flying debris, collapsing structures and speeding vehicles whose drivers could barely see through the downpour.
Meanwhile, frightened shelter animals – many already rescued from abuse, neglect and homelessness – are facing another crisis. Storm damage destroyed kennels, food supplies are running dangerously low and there are not enough dry blankets to keep them warm.
We must rush emergency aid to these helpless animal victims NOW.
Whenever disaster strikes, we rush to help trapped and terrified animals in need.
Our partners – Mdzananda Animal Clinic and TEARS Animal Rescue – are working around the clock to rescue vulnerable animals, provide emergency medical treatment, repair storm damage and keep frightened dogs and cats warm, fed and safe through this crisis.
Despite dangerous conditions, the Mdzananda rescue team searched storm-ravaged informal settlements for animals in distress. That’s when they found Teddy – a dog trapped in knee-deep floodwater. She is now safe — but she and the 72 other animals at the shelter urgently need food and medical care.

When the storm struck our partner TEARS Animal Rescue, suffered extensive damage to its kennels and cattery. Powerful winds ripped apart fencing, damaged animal enclosures, scattered dangerous debris, and brought down trees around the very spaces rescued animals depend on for their safety.

Our partners are doing everything possible to protect animals after this disaster – but they urgently need help to continue. Critical needs right now include emergency rescues, food, warm blankets, veterinary care and repairs to damaged shelters.
Here is how your emergency donation can make a difference:
- $10 (£7) will feed one animal for a week
- $15 (£11) will provide a warm blanket for a cold, frightened animal
- $20 (£15) will cover deworming, vaccination and tick/flea treatment
- $50 (£37) will help repair storm-damaged shelters
- $100 (£74) will fund a rescue mission for stranded animals

Help us repair the damage to our partner shelters and rush urgent rescue, food, blankets and care to storm-stricken animals in Cape Town.
