Hurricane Melissa – the most powerful storm ever to strike Jamaica – has left a trail of destruction, flooding and despair. Homes have been obliterated, roads destroyed and power and communications cut off.

Amid the chaos, countless terrified animals are suffering in silence – stranded, starving, injured and alone.
Network for Animals has chosen to support four dedicated animal rescue groups in Jamaica – Negril Pup Rescue, OnlyPaws Cat Rescue, Kitties of Kingston and Portland Pups – all of which are in desperate need of help right now.
Make an emergency donation today to help them survive this catastrophe.
Shelters have been destroyed. Animals are trapped. Supplies have been wiped out.
In Negril, the situation is dire. Before contact was lost, we received a desperate update from Negril Pup Rescue, where 80 dogs were sheltering as the hurricane made landfall. Their home and kennels were collapsing around them. Many dogs were trapped inside the house or huddled in a half-built shipping container meant to serve as a storm shelter.
We still have not heard back as communication is down, but the destruction in Negril is catastrophic. We must assume the worst and be ready to send emergency support the moment we can reach them.
On the opposite side of the island, Portland Pups is struggling to feed their rescued dogs as well as displaced animals, and desperately needs dog and cat food and parasite preventatives to treat mange, fleas and ticks.
In Kingston, Kitties of Kingston and OnlyPaws Cat Rescue are scrambling to feed starving cats and dogs, treat injuries and care for animals suffering from disease and infection. Once the immediate crisis passes, they’ll also begin spay and neuter drives to prevent more animals from being born into suffering.
We must be ready to act the instant it’s safe to deploy.
