In the ancient streets of Marrakesh, Morocco, there’s a quiet corner where suffering meets salvation – our partner shelter, the Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Refuge.
This vital sanctuary provides a loving forever home for more than 270 animals – including 23 who arrived in the last three months alone! These are donkeys, horses and mules rescued from unspeakable cruelty and neglect. These innocent creatures were overworked to exhaustion, beaten when they could no longer work, or left to suffer by owners who didn’t know how to look after them – or who simply didn’t care.
Many of the animals arrived at Jarjeer with their skin torn and scarred, their bodies broken and their spirits shattered.
But Jarjeer never turns away an animal in need.

25 of these precious animals were so badly injured, they are permanently disabled. Vets advised euthanasia, but Jarjeer chose life. With love, patience and round-the-clock care, they’ve been nurtured back to health and now live peaceful, pain-free lives, despite their disabilities.
With hundreds of animals to care for and more arriving every week, the sanctuary is overwhelmed.
They need our help right away to give the most broken animals the expert care they deserve.

Day by day, more donkeys, mules and horses arrive, desperate for food, shelter and medical care. As you read this, they are in the process of taking in up to 40 more horses and donkeys from another shelter that has run into difficulties.

We must build 30 new stables to house suffering animals and give them the safety and dignity they deserve. Each stable costs $1,000 (£750), and workers from the local community are ready to start building – as soon as we can secure the funds.
Will you help us build these desperately needed shelters?
Every penny or cent counts and will help protect a donkey, mule or horse from the searing summer heat, give a disabled creature a safe, dry recovery space, and ensure that Jarjeer can continue saying “yes” to the animals no-one else will help.

These animals have suffered so much already. Help us give them a second chance at a safe, happy life by donating as generously as you can today.
