In Jordan, street dogs endure unimaginable cruelty — dodging cold-hearted motorists who often deliberately aim for them, being shot at by people who despise them, and facing starvation and disease on hostile streets. The suffering never ends.
We and our partners are among the very few providing the desperate shelter and care these helpless animals need.
A recent desperate call highlights the plight of Jordan’s street dogs – a small dog was screaming in agony and hiding under a twisted frame after being hit by a car. With no hesitation and despite being stretched beyond their limits, our partners nonetheless raced into action to save her.
Without help, this horrifically injured puppy would have been left to die alone and in agony.
A severely injured Aziza found refuge under an abandoned vehicle (left), before she was taken to a shelter to heal and recover (right).
The puppy, now named Aziza, had managed to crawl beneath a rusting car, lying in filth and rubbish, whimpering alone. With only basic tools, volunteers lifted the wreckage just enough to pull the trembling Aziza out.
Tara was found in a terrible state, tied so tightly with a metal chain that it had lacerated her neck as she desperately tried to escape.
The horrific extent of her injuries was revealed when she arrived at the veterinary clinic – both back legs shattered, with one leg barely connected, the smashed bone and tendons already rotting away and causing excruciating pain. Sadly, the leg could not be saved, and Aziza underwent an amputation. The other leg was treated and is healing.
Aziza is now recovering slowly from her trauma. Although still nervous and afraid, she is starting to enjoy cuddles and is eating well while her wounds and spirit are also slowly healing.
These are far from isolated incidents. Homeless dogs in Jordan are stalked by death every day.
Countless street dogs in Jordan face daily threats to their lives, including traffic, starvation, and human violence. Some are deliberately killed because they are viewed as “unclean,” while others are killed simply for sport.
We help to provide emergency care for traumatized and injured animals, giving them a second chance at life.
Every day is a struggle, but the joy of seeing a rescued dog living life to the full again makes it all worthwhile.
Amal was found beside the body of her dead sister wounded and in pain. We helped save her.
Every day is a fight to afford urgent veterinary care and life-saving surgery for animals with severe injuries. When bills fall behind, vets may be forced to turn away new cases our partners bring in until debts are cleared.
Even so, we remain committed to saving as many dogs as possible, despite the need far exceeding our resources.
Alongside emergency care, we support TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) programs to break the cycle of cruelty and fear and to foster compassion and acceptance of street dogs, and we are working with authorities to support more sustainable solutions.
Jordan’s shelters are bursting at the seams, and new, desperate calls for help come in every week.
Please help us rush vital supplies and prevent helpless, injured dogs being left to suffer.
