Emma and Ziggy were both heavily pregnant when traffickers seized them for the donkey skin trade in Kenya. Cramped into a truck and headed for slaughter, they – and their unborn foals – were mere hours away from death.
But thanks to the compassion of supporters like you, their story did not end in tragedy. Because when you donate, life-saving rescue missions happen!
Our partner, the Kenya Society for the Protection of Animals (KSPCA), rushed to the scene and rescued 70 donkeys that day, including Emma and Ziggy. Just days later, both gave birth at the shelter.

Ziggy and Emma’s foals opened their eyes to kindness, not violence – all because animal lovers like you chose to act.
Now, more donkeys like them need your help before it’s too late.
KSPCA urgently needs a modern, fully-equipped ambulance. If enough caring people respond today, we can raise the $43,000 (£32,500) needed to purchase, equip and deploy a dedicated donkey ambulance — one that can reach injured, pregnant and trafficked donkeys faster, treat them on-site and transport them safely to care.More than 100,000 donkeys are brutally killed and skinned every year in Kenya to feed the demand for ejiao – a gelatin used in traditional Chinese medicine and beauty products.

Donkey slaughter has been banned by the African Union and the Kenyan government, but weak enforcement and organized criminal networks have driven the trade underground. This has allowed the illegal killing to continue unchecked, leaving countless donkeys at risk.

We can save even more donkeys like Emma and Ziggy – but we need your help to reach them in time.
KSPCA currently only has one animal ambulance. With 40 to 50 rescue calls coming in daily from across Kenya, the team is often forced to rely on hired vehicles for donkey rescue missions. These are expensive, slow and extremely unreliable.
A rescue that should take just an hour or two can take up to 24 long, excruciating hours. For a donkey bleeding from machete wounds or a pregnant jenny like Emma or Ziggy, this can mean the difference between life and death.

A donkey ambulance, fully stocked with on-board medical kits, would allow the team to respond faster and treat injured and vulnerable donkeys immediately – both on-site and during transport.
This donkey ambulance would slash response times, end dependence on risky hired transport and empower our team to reach and save far more donkeys each week.
Kenya’s donkeys desperately need this ambulance – and you have the power to put it on the road.
Please donate right away.

Ziggy, Emma and their foals survived because these rescue missions were made possible by donors like you. Just imagine how many more precious donkey lives we can save in the future with your ongoing support.
Please, donate now to give Kenya’s vulnerable donkeys the safest, fastest chance of rescue they have ever had.
