Umkonto lay paralyzed on a road in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Frightened and helpless, she could not stand or move her legs.
The people trying to help her had no car. There was no nearby clinic. So they did the only thing they could.
They carefully placed her in a wheelbarrow and trundled her along, seeking someone to save her.
They found our long-time partner, KZN Valley Dogs, and she was taken to safety, but our team needs far more than a wheelbarrow. These unpaid volunteers use a vehicle that is now more than 20 years old and urgently needs to be replaced.

Please help raise $10,000 (£7,500) for an animal ambulance to help hungry, neglected animals in the remote Valley of a Thousand Hills.
Help keep food and care reaching more than 2,000 dogs.
More than 2,000 dogs depend on KZN Valley Dogs for food. The dogs recognize the ageing animal ambulance. They come running, tails wagging, because its arrival means food – and possibly the only guaranteed meal they will receive that week.
As the volunteers move through the communities, they also look for sick and injured animals. They treat those they can on-site and take the most serious cases to the vet.
If the vehicle breaks down, food deliveries stop. A dog who needs urgent veterinary care could be left waiting for help that doesn’t come.

Volunteers have spent a decade conducting these journeys, come rain or shine. They need a vehicle they can depend on – because for these dogs, reliable transport could mean the difference between life and death.
Your donation can help keep these life-saving journeys going.
It can help carry food to empty bowls for hungry dogs, help a frightened, injured dog make the journey from a rural roadside to a veterinarian, and ensure that when a dog desperately needs help, KZN Valley Dogs can reach them in time.
That is why this vehicle matters.

When Umkonto reached KZN Valley Dogs, the team arranged antibiotic treatment and fitted her with a custom brace to support her legs. Today, she has fully recovered.
Somewhere in these rural communities, another dog like Umkonto may be sick, injured, or simply waiting for their weekly meal. We want KZN Valley Dogs to be able to reach that dog.
Your gift can help keep food moving toward hungry dogs, keep veterinary care within reach, and keep a lifeline on the road for the animals who have no one else to turn to.
