A heartbreaking DOUBLE disaster is unfolding for vulnerable donkeys in Tanzania – and the gentle animals you helped us protect in the past need your help once more.
A devastating drought has left 1,200 working donkeys in the artisanal Mgusu gold-mining community starving, while a deadly tetanus outbreak is also sweeping through the area.
Already, 14 donkeys have died. Without urgent action, many more lives will be lost.
Our partner, the Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organization (LAZAWO), immediately alerted us to this crisis. The team is witnessing heartbreaking scenes as donkeys collapse from starvation and tetanus, simply too weak to go on. With Tanzania in the middle of its dry season and the rains not expected until early October, these donkeys will not survive without emergency help.

We have promised to help provide life-saving feed, water and vaccinations – and your gift to support this would be so appreciated.
The crisis is so severe in Mgusu because around 1,200 working donkeys are confined to a very small grazing area. Drought has stripped away the vegetation, and the donkeys have nowhere else to go to find food. They are growing weaker by the day, heading for starvation.
To make matters worse, there has been an outbreak of the deadly tetanus disease that attacks the nervous system, causing agonizing muscle spasms, paralysis and, in many cases, death. Without urgent vaccination, many more donkeys will succumb to this painful disease.
The donkeys cannot wait. Every day without emergency aid means more suffering and more preventable deaths.
Please, will you help?
14 donkeys have already tragically lost their lives. But with your help, we can provide emergency relief and save the remaining donkeys before it’s too late. Source: LAZAWO
NFA is mobilizing with LAZAWO to rush emergency relief to the donkeys of Mgusu – but we urgently need your support to make it possible.
With your donation today, we can:
- Set up emergency water troughs
- Deliver life-saving supplementary feed to starving donkeys
- Roll out a critical tetanus vaccination campaign to protect the remaining animals
Every day of delay means more donkeys will die from starvation or disease. Your compassion could mean the difference between life and death for a donkey who has nowhere else to turn.
Please give as generously as you can to Network for Animals today to help save the donkeys of Mgusu before it’s too late.
