Winter is coming fast to the Balkan country of Montenegro. For Danijela Vuksanovic’s Riki’s Shelter, this is a season of desperation.

Danijela cares for 110 rescued dogs, all of whom have come from terrible situations – abandoned, neglected, injured and unloved. Now, as freezing mountain storms approach, their only home – and their very lives – are in danger.
110 rescue dogs face freezing temperatures and starvation as winter looms in Montenegro.
To make this sad story even worse, the local authorities of the nearby town of Kolasin are adamantly refusing to help. Their attitude is: if the dogs starve, so be it.
These dogs have already endured unimaginable hardships. They deserve at least the simple comforts of life – a warm meal and shelter from the cold. But without your help, they face a winter of hunger and suffering.
With no help from local authorities, Danijela is doing everything she can, but it’s not enough. They desperately need our support.
Will you stand with us today and give these dogs a chance to survive the winter?
Please donate now
For just $31 (around £24), you can provide a 33-pound (15kg) bag of food. We need at least 50 bags every month to keep these dogs alive during the coldest months of the year.
Danijela carries each bag by hand across snowy hills to reach the shelter, which is inaccessible by car once the snow comes. With your help, we can provide not only food but also blankets – and, if we surpass our goal, we can even hire a worker to help carry the bags, bringing some hope and warmth to these deserving animals.
These dogs have no-one else. The municipality says they will get around to building its own dog shelter, but there is no realistic plan in its budgets to do so in the foreseeable future. The municipality – the very people who should be taking care of these dogs – have turned their back and are content to let the dogs die.
If Danijela can no longer provide crucial food for the animals, they face being sent to kill shelters, where they could be euthanized if not adopted within 30 days.
We cannot let that happen.
Without your generous support, 110 dogs could be facing death. Please, help us feed them today.

Danijela is struggling and facing her own financial hardships. She relies on donations from kind people like you. Thanks to support from Network for Animals, we’ve been able to provide insulated kennels for these dogs, but their need for food is constant – and with winter approaching, it’s more crucial than ever.
Once again, hungry animals are in desperate need, the authorities refuse to do anything and 110 dogs are counting on animal-lovers like you to care for them.
Please give generously today and help us save 110 vulnerable dogs from the harsh Montenegrin winter.
