As you read this, our partner, the OAZA Shelter in Serbia, is facing a heartbreaking crisis.
Over 400 dogs, each rescued from horrific abuse, abandonment and starvation, have found refuge at OAZA, the sole no-kill shelter of its kind in Serbia – but now, it has run out of space.
Every week, more dogs are dumped at our partner’s gates – terrified, injured, and in desperate need of help.
Without support, the team may be forced to do the unthinkable: turn needy dogs away.

Vulnerable animals are often abandoned outside OAZA’s gates by heartless owners who tie them to the shelter’s fences or discard litters of newborn puppies in cardboard boxes outside the gate. The team takes them all because turning them away could mean death.
Yet with no more space to house the new arrivals – and no funds to build new kennels or even to repair their existing ones – dogs are forced to share overcrowded spaces, leading to fights that can cause serious injuries.
Repairs are critical. A dog recently escaped his overcrowded shelter through a broken section and was mauled by another dog; his wounds were extremely severe, and required emergency life-saving care.

We must fix the damage and build new kennels right away before more dogs are hurt – or worse.
Time is of the essence. Dogs in Serbia are subject to some of the worst abuse we’ve seen – shot, poisoned and beaten to death by authorities and locals alike. OAZA is one of the few safe spaces they have, and we must ensure that they can continue saving the lives of animals who have no-one else to turn to.
If we don’t act now, the harsh reality is that dogs will suffer injuries, abuse and disease, or have their lives cut needlessly short by cruel people.

We must raise emergency funds immediately to:
- Provide food, care and shelter for the 400 rescue dogs living there.
- Build new fencing and housing.
- Provide medical care for dogs arriving with critical condition.
