When we first met Danijela Vuksanovic in 2021, she was fighting breast cancer while caring for 140 abandoned dogs in the mountains of Montenegro.
Her greatest fear was what would happen to the dogs if she could no longer look after them. Local authorities refused to help, saying the dogs would be released onto a rubbish dump and left to fend for themselves. Sickness and death would inevitably follow.
Network for Animals stepped in. With our supporters’ help, we kept the dogs fed and sheltered and worked to reduce the number – from 140 to 67 today.
For five years, we have stood by Danijela and her dogs at Rikki’s Shelter. Now they need an urgent new push from us.
After a period of remission, Danijela’s cancer has returned. She is receiving chemotherapy every week, and the side effects make caring for 67 dogs extremely difficult.
To make things worse a flood swept through the remote farmhouse used for the sanctuary, destroying precious pet passports that had already been obtained for some of the dogs.
Those documents were part of their route to new homes abroad. Now they must be replaced before the dogs can travel.
Danijela cannot afford the cost. Already struggling with treatment and the daily demands of the shelter, she is desperately anxious about this latest setback.
Please donate today to help us replace the destroyed documents, prepare the dogs for adoption and get them safely to loving homes.

We must help secure the dogs’ futures while Danijela can still care for them.
- Replace the pet passports destroyed in a flood and arrange the necessary travel paperwork
- Provide veterinary checks, vaccinations and treatment to prepare dogs for adoption
- Find suitable homes through photographs, individual profiles, trusted rescue partners and careful checks on prospective adopters
- Arrange safe transport and help care for the dogs while they wait

Will you give $20 (£15), $50 (£40), $100 (£75), or whatever you can today?
Your donation will help us overcome this unexpected setback and give these dogs a real chance of a new life.
Please help us give Danijela that reassurance – and her dogs the future she has worked so hard to give them.
