Disaster struck our long-time partner, The Emma Animal Rescue Society (TEARS) in Cape Town, South Africa, at dawn earlier this week.
At 5am, a fire broke out on a neighbouring property. Within minutes, a fiery inferno spread to the TEARS kennels, engulfing structures and devouring the dogs’ enclosures.

Our partner raced into the flames and saved them all.
Panicking dogs were rushed to the TEARS clinic for safety and treatment for smoke inhalation, while firefighters battled the blaze.
No lives were lost – but the animals’ safe spaces have been obliterated.
Several enclosures were reduced to ashes – bungalows, fencing, shaded areas – all destroyed and gone in an instant, leaving 10 terrified dogs without a place to call home.

The dogs need shelters right away – and we need your help to build them.
For more than a decade, Network for Animals has supported TEARS in its mission to save abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Cape Town’s most impoverished communities. TEARS helps dogs and cats in shockingly poor communities, where animals often live in abject misery. With your help, we’ve provided food, shelter and life-saving veterinary care to countless animals rescued by TEARS and who now face homelessness again.
These dogs endured so much hardship and suffering before our partner gave them a second chance. Now they face trauma all over again. Unless we act quickly, they will have nowhere safe to go.
We must repair and rebuild the enclosures, equipped with fire-resistant bungalows, fencing and shade-providing pergolas, so that the dogs can recover in safety and continue their journey toward loving homes. For just $5,000 (£3,700), we can get construction underway. Anything you can contribute to help vulnerable dogs live in safe shelters will really help.

The dogs need your help – and they need it today.
Please, make an emergency donation right away to help us rebuild crucial kennels, restoring safety and comfort for dogs who have lost their only homes.
