Close your eyes and imagine for a moment, life as a donkey in Jordan

a life filled with unending pain slaving in the Middle Eastern desert.

… a life in which you lug people day after day up and down treacherous, slippery paths, under an unforgiving sun, with no relief.

… a life where your saddle cuts into you, leaving gaping, aching wounds.

… a life where you are besieged by flies, and you hobble on agonizingly sprained ankles.

Even if you are one of the lucky few donkeys who has an owner that cares about you, your future is bleak. If you get injured or fall ill and your owner trudges with you to the ONLY veterinary center in the region, you discover they are unable to treat you because they lack enough medical equipment.

Imagine your utter, gut-wrenching despair!

Yet, this is the grim reality countless donkeys and horses face day after day in the excruciatingly hot, dry ancient city of Petra in Jordan.

This is why we need your help today.

You might ask: what is the purpose of this torture?

It’s only so unthinking humans don’t have to walk to see a tourist attraction!

Some people just don’t understand that burdening donkeys with excessive weight is cruel – and are so insensitive they ignore obvious wounds on the creature carrying them.

We cannot right every wrong in this world, but we can alleviate suffering.

In Petra, the donkeys and horses bear visitors, like taxis, up a steep, precarious path carved from the rock. Their journey, which spans about 1.2 miles (two kilometers), leads from the base of the city to a monastery perched on the summit of a hill.

We’re fueled by a shared passion to uplift the welfare of these beautiful animals, a goal that shared by some caring locals. By partnering with them, we’re committed to easing the donkeys’ suffering while tirelessly fighting for their improved treatment.

We cannot overstate the anguish these poor creatures experience or how important it is to help them immediately, and work to get them better conditions in the future. These animals suffer in silence, which is why we, and you, together, MUST speak out for them.

If YOU were a donkey in Petra, working without rest, every day suffering excruciating pain, wouldn’t YOU want someone to speak up for you when no one heard your cries?

Recently, during a visit to the only clinic in the area, Bedouin donkey owners and local veterinarians reached out to us for help, pleading for assistance in equipping the clinic and getting medical supplies for the donkeys.

Some Bedouin donkey owners and veterinarians are compassionate and try to help these suffering animals, but with limited resources and without necessary medications and tools, their help is sadly limited.

The donkeys need SO much care, and we desperately want to ensure they get it.

Please help us rush medical supplies to ease the pain of the injured, overworked donkeys of Petra.

Your support right now will be the lifeline these animals need. If we can raise $5,000 (roughly £4,000), we can send critically needed medicines, and ensure that these poor donkeys receive the care they so desperately need.

With your help, we will also be able to equip the donkeys with fly guards, a simple yet effective solution to provide them with relief from the relentless pestering of insects (this alone will vastly improve their quality of life).

P.S. The difficult lives of donkeys around the world weighs heavily on our hearts, and we tirelessly work to develop long-term solutions to improve their lives in Petra and elsewhere. We are exploring alternative means of transportation, such as electric golf carts, with the ultimate goal of phasing out the use of equines altogether. But this is a future goal, and these donkeys need your help NOW – so please donate whatever you possibly can right away.
