Can you imagine the desperation in the eyes of countless malnourished and mistreated dogs, struggling to survive hunger and hardship in a dirt-poor rural area of South Africa?

In the Valley of a Thousand Hills in South Africa, more than 1,000 dogs are tragic victims of extreme poverty, ignorance, uncontrolled breeding and utter neglect. It breaks our hearts to tell you that most of these poor, starving dogs are so emaciated that their ribs are visible through their scarred, parasite-riddled skin.

To add to their misery, many of the dogs experience terrible abuse or suffer from dangerous infections and diseases, intestinal parasites or horrific dog-fighting injuries, including broken bones and painful lacerations. Some are purposely run over by cars!

Local vets report that they have NEVER seen such severe cases of injury or illness
anywhere else, but…

Our long-standing partner, KZN Valley Dogs, ventures into the region every Sunday to feed and care for the dogs, rain or shine. In 2021, when violent riots broke out in the region, we helped the Valley Dogs team access the region via helicopter - THAT’S how committed they are to helping the animals.

With our support (made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters such as you), this small team of compassionate animal lovers touches the lives of 1,200 dogs every week. Network for Animals recently accompanied them on a feeding mission, and the heart-wrenching scenes we witnessed moved us to tears…

Utterly ravenous, the animals sprint towards the feeding vehicles, wagging their tails in anticipation of what is to come: a full belly - possibly for the first time that week.

KZN Valley Dogs is a beacon of hope in their dark world, but feeding more than 1,000 famished dogs comes at a cost, and as you can imagine, food is not the only critical need.

Every week, new suffering is discovered.

We are fiercely dedicated to supporting KZN Valley Dogs by funding rescue missions, food, and urgent veterinary care for desperate dogs. But we cannot do it without you. Their suffering is unbearable, and your generous support is the only lifeline they have.
