Recently, I wrote to you saying our team’s animal rescue missions in the Donbas region of Ukraine were forced to stop when all five of its vehicles were damaged while on the frontlines. Russian bullets damaged some, while bombed-out roads and enemy shelling finished off the others.

Hundreds of animals are desperate for help – but without a crucial rescue vehicle, there’s nothing our team can do.

Now our team's most important vehicle has been captured after they were attacked by Russian soldiers. 400 animals scattered over the war zone are waiting for rescue.

The Nissan Navara was damaged while coming under fire in the Donbas region. Luckily, our team survived – but as the vehicle was being towed towards the relative safety of Kharkiv, Russians blew up the bridge it had to cross. The truck was abandoned, but our team rescued seven cats, seven dogs and an irritable parrot from the vehicle and carried them by hand to safety.

Hundreds of animals are waiting for our team from Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK) to get to the frontlines to help them. Since I last wrote, with the support of animal-lovers like you, we managed to send enough money to get repairs started on three of the five damaged vehicles, but, alas, the situation just got worse.

Every day, more animals face starvation, disease and death on the frontlines. Please, help us save them today.

Our rescuers avoid driving on major roads because the Russians target them with drones. Rural roads are safer but they are in shocking conditions, and sometimes, going off-road is the only way to get to stranded animals.

A double cab pick-up like the Navara is priceless because it is strong enough to navigate the almost-destroyed rural roads and has space for several animals.

We must do our best to replace this vehicle as soon as possible. Every day of delay means more animals will be alone on the frontlines, abandoned, hungry, confused and often injured.

$6000 (£4,600) will get rescue operations underway again.

If we can raise $6,000 (£4,600), we can find a solid second-hand pick-up in Europe and have it driven to Ukraine. Within days, our team can be rescuing animals again. Some 400 are waiting to be saved.

Less than a dozen people in Ukraine regularly go to the frontline to save animals. Quite literally, without the work our teams do, hundreds of animals would die.

ARK has rescued 230 cats since the war broke out. Now, we are faced with 400 more animals in desperate need. These animals were once beloved pets and have had their lives turned upside down by this terrible war. Please help us reach them in time and give them a second chance at safety, love and comfort.
