November once again highlighted the need for our help in some of the world’s most desperate regions - and once again, you came through for the animals when they needed you most. Here’s how your support changed and saved lives in November.

South Africa

Our partner Fallen Angels rescues horribly abused dogs from some of South Africa’s poorest and most dangerous areas. Countless dogs owe their lives to its efforts. Fallen Angels does heroic work, so when they came to us with the distressing news that it may have to close its doors due to lack of funds, we had to help. We appealed to you for support, and you responded generously. Thanks to you, hundreds of dogs (and cats!) will continue to have safe shelter, and full bellies, at the Fallen Angels shelter. Palestine

After the mayor of Hebron placed a bounty on the heads of street dogs, local people took to the streets of the West Bank city to slaughter dogs in droves. Every dog destroyed earned the killer $5.50 (around £4.60)! The brutality was sickening. When our partner on the ground, the Animal and Environment Association (AEA), asked for our urgent support, we didn’t think twice. We knew we had to get as many dogs off the street as possible, but AEA had space for only 50 - and the shelter was already packed to the rafters with desperate animals. Your support - and outrage - poured in, and with your donations, we will be able to get many more dogs off the wicked streets of Hebron. Read the original story.

Bosnia & Herzogovina

We previously told you about the terrible lives of street dogs in Trebinje, Bosnia. If they get caught they are handed over to the city’s garbage department because they’re considered ‘rubbish’. They are then taken to the garbage dump, caged, and left there to suffer until they die. After negotiations with local authorities, we secured a piece of land to build a modern, safe shelter. You helped us raise enough money to begin work, but we urgently need to raise the remaining funds to finish the shelter: 67 dogs are still living on the rubbish heap in truly shocking conditions. Your support for these tragic dogs will enable us to finish this desperately needed shelter in the first half of 2023. Read the original story.

Kenya

Street cats in poverty-stricken Lamu, Kenya, are sick, starving, and scrounging for scraps on rubbish heaps. They suffer from the moment they are born until they die, and only a few make it to adulthood. No animal deserves to “live” this way, and we know that the most effective way to begin combatting their suffering is through sterilization. Your support for this incredibly important project makes it possible for us to partner with the Kenyan Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) and run a mass sterilization project on the impoverished island. Thank you for caring for these desperately needy animals. Read the original story.

You gave back this Giving Tuesday!

We are so grateful for friends like you! In November, we shared how your love for animals has supported our work in some of the poorest places in the world this year. None of what we do would have been possible without you, and for that, we are deeply grateful - and we are sure the animals are, too.

Good news updates

Beauty, the two-legged trooper:

Earlier this year, we introduced you to Beauty, a little dog with a BIG hurdle to overcome: she lost two legs after being hit by a train. You won’t believe how far she’s come! Beauty resides in Montenegro with her rescuers, and one day hopes to have a loving home of her own. Read the original story.

A new vehicle for ASPA:

Our Tanzanian partner, the Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPA), does outstanding work helping neglected and abused street animals. Every month, the team drives hundreds of miles on truly awful roads to reach dogs, cats and donkeys in urgent need, and their 20-year-old vehicle was close to breaking point. Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide ASPA with a new vehicle to continue its emergency outreach animal care.
