Our partners in Jordan have saved so many dogs over the years that others would have discarded or left to die. Dogs like Kastana.
She was found in agony by the roadside with terrible wounds after being shot at close range. Volunteers from Al Rahmeh in Amman rushed Kastana to the vet, where she endured two major operations to save her life, but her leg could not be saved. She lost one leg, and the other remains partially paralyzed, but after a long period of healing in a foster home, she is now enjoying playtime with her friends at the shelter and waiting for a forever home.
We help dogs like Kastana by providing the food and medicines needed by disabled and recovering dogs.
Why we help them
In Jordan, being born a street dog can be a death sentence.
Many dogs in Jordan spend their lives dodging bullets, avoiding poisoned food, searching desperately for water and trying to survive in a country where they are often viewed as pests rather than living beings worthy of compassion.
Our teams and local partners witness heartbreaking cruelty every day. But they also witness something else: dogs who still wag their tails when visited by our partners and volunteer feeders and shown kindness and compassion.
They need our help now more than ever.

What happens
For years, Network for Animals and our partners have documented shocking abuse against street dogs throughout Jordan.
Dogs have been:
- Deliberately run over by vehicles
- Shot and poisoned
- Beaten and tortured
- Left with life-threatening injuries
- Abandoned without food, water or veterinary care
The situation is especially difficult in some areas where shelters are overwhelmed and resources scarce. Yet every week, new emergency cases arrive needing medical intervention.

- Shelter, rehabilitation and long-term care for injured dogs

From rescue to recovery, every dog in the NFA-funded Al Rahmeh TNVR programme receives vital veterinary care, including sterilisation, annual vaccinations, and tick and flea treatment. Once healthy, vaccinated and ear-tagged to show they have been through the programme, they are safely returned to the community carers who continue to provide them with food, water and ongoing care.
