Friend Animal Foundation, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe's Most Vulnerable Animals Need a Safe Place to Call Home
At the Friend Animal Foundation (FAF) in Harare, Zimbabwe, hundreds of abandoned, injured and disabled animals have found safety, care and hope. Many have nowhere else to go. Your support helps provide food, veterinary care, rehabilitation and lifelong sanctuary for animals who would otherwise be forgotten.
Why we help them
For unwanted animals in Zimbabwe, life can be brutally unforgiving.
Economic hardship, rising veterinary costs and widespread poverty have led to increasing numbers of abandoned and neglected animals. Many suffer severe injuries, chronic illness or disabilities, with few options for rescue or treatment.
For hundreds of animals, the Friend Animal Foundation (FAF) is their only chance of survival.
What happens
Every year, dogs and cats arrive at FAF after experiencing unimaginable hardship.
Many have been:
- Abandoned by their owners
- Injured in accidents
- Left to suffer with untreated illnesses
- Neglected due to financial hardship
- Born into lives of homelessness and uncertainty
- Left permanently disabled by cruelty or injury
Today, FAF provides sanctuary to nearly 700 animals, including hundreds of dogs, cats and rescued farm animals.
For many, the shelter is not a temporary refuge – — it is the only home they will ever know.
How your support helps
Working alongside FAF, we provide the resources needed to care for some of Zimbabwe’s most vulnerable animals.
Your support helps fund:
- Daily food and nutrition
- Veterinary treatment, surgery and sterilizations
- Rescue and rehabilitation
- Long-term care for disabled animals
- Safe shelter and enrichment
- Specialised rehabilitation programmes
- Infrastructure improvements
- Essential shelter staff and caregivers
Together, we are giving animals a second chance at life.
The crisis in Zimbabwe is not over
Although FAF has grown into a vital sanctuary, the challenges remain immense.
Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic difficulties continue to increase the number of animals needing help while driving up the cost of food, medicine and veterinary care.
Many animals arrive requiring extensive treatment and lifelong support. Others need specializsed rehabilitation to recover from devastating injuries.
Without continued support, countless animals would have nowhere to turn.
