Good News Update: The Animals Of APA El Refugio Get New Kennels – And A New Home!

Back in February, we told you about our partner, the APA El Refugio shelter in Uruguay, which had been destroyed by a terrible fire soon followed by a flood. Some animals had died in the blaze, and the shelter had been left utterly devastated by the flood, losing critical supplies, kennels and food stocks.

We were heartbroken and so were you – especially because APA El Refugio cares for many elderly and disabled dogs. We dearly wanted to help the team repair its shelter and provide new kennels for the displaced animals, and through your generosity, this is exactly what we’ve been able to do.

A few days ago, Patricia Tantessio, Chair of the Board of Directors, wrote to us to let us know that the team had completed many repairs with the donations received from Network for Animals: it repaired dog kennels and leaking roofs (the leaks were damaging donated food and items), and also managed to buy new kennels for the dogs. APA’s next plan is to construct a special area for rescued puppies to be kept safe and warm.

Mate finds his fur-ever match!

But that’s not all: one of the dogs at the shelter has been adopted by a US citizen and is set to travel to his new home in California! His new dad worked for the US Embassy in Uruguay for three years. Now that he is returning to the US, he is taking his four-legged bestie, Mate, with him.

“Thank you very much for helping us make all this possible!,” the shelter wrote to us. And thank you, Network for Animals supporters, for opening your hearts and giving so generously to the sweet animals of APA El Refugio. They are so grateful for your support!

It is only through your donations that we’re able to help give a second chance to needy animals like these. Please keep donating. Every time you do, you change an animal’s life!
