Update: Street Dog Kwikwi’s Pups Are Thriving, But Kwikwi Still Faces A Long Road To Recovery

In August, our team visited Arusha in Tanzania and met a tragic, pregnant street dog living in a storm drain. She was named ‘Kwikwi’ because of the chronic tremor that racks her body – likely caused by neurological damage after being hit by a car.

Soon after we met her, Kwikwi gave birth to her babies – seven in total, though sadly, one died almost immediately. Our partner, the Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPA), rescued them from the street and took them to its offices to care for them. ASPA is not an animal shelter but through the support of NFA donors, they were able to construct a safe and comfortable enclosure for Kwikwi and her pups, who are all thriving. They are fat, happy and healthy, and two have already been promised homes for when they’re old enough to leave their mom. ASPA is working hard to find good homes for the remaining four.

Your donations also enabled ASPA’s vet to begin Kwikwi’s intensive six-month course of treatment for her tremor. Sadly, she isn’t showing signs of improvement yet, but we will continue to do our best to bring her some relief. We will keep you updated on her situation. Thank you for making it possible for us to get Kwikwi and her babies off the filthy, chaotic streets and give them a place of safety.
