Joe Biden will be the next USA president – and his beloved rescued pet pooch Major, couldn’t be prouder of his owner!
Not just did Major – a rescue German Shepherd – go from living in a shelter to having a loving family to call his own, but he will also be shacking up in the White House.
Major will be the first rescue dog to live in the White House following Biden’s inauguration in January next year. For the last four years, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been pooch-free, but that will now change thanks to Biden winning the election over Donald Trump last week. Trump was the first occupant in more than one hundred years not to own a pet of some kind.
The Bidens adopted Major two years ago from the Delaware Humane Association (DHA), a non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization founded in 1957 that is committed to “Making friends for life”.
Major had been living with the Bidens for a while as a foster dog before they adopted him. Every now and again, Joe and his wife Jill shared Major’s pictures on social media, and Major and Joe also made memorable appearances leading up to the presidential election. During Joe’s campaign, he had also spoken about how he wished to “put dogs back in the White House”.
Meanwhile, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) has proudly taken to Twitter to celebrate the great news saying “We still can’t believe our own DHA alum Major will be moving to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave this January!”
