We’ve got a bit of catching up to do! Our February updates didn’t make it to your inbox, which means you are in for a double dose of animal success stories this month. Find out how you helped us make a life-changing impact for dogs, cats and donkeys in February and March.

Providing life-saving surgeries for severely injured dogs in an impoverished township

Every day in the impoverished township of Khayelitsha in Cape Town, South Africa, vulnerable street dogs are hit by speeding cars, leaving them with horrific injuries. We partner with Mdzananda, a small veterinary clinic dedicated to helping these abandoned and injured dogs.

Our supporters helped us cover the cost of life-saving surgeries for three dogs so far, healing fractured legs and giving the animals the chance to walk and run again.

Mirongoine, Tanzania

Securing food and medical care for 1,500 sick and starving donkeys for the next six months

In the rural village of Mirongoine, Tanzania, working donkeys endure hard labor every week. The animals are also so hungry that they resort to eating plastic waste. Together with our partner, the Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPA), we are working to bring these animals the food and care they desperately need.

Thanks to our supporters, we raised enough money to provide food and monthly mobile clinics for the donkeys in Mirongoine for the next six months. Our supporters are making a real difference in places like Tanzania, where donkeys rarely receive the care and compassion they deserve.

Building a new home for 600+ rescue cats

In March, we told you that Nairobi Feline Sanctuary (NFS) was facing eviction, with 600+ rescue cats at risk of losing the only safe, loving home they have ever known. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the sanctuary rebuild is officially underway! Phase 1 – clearing, fencing and leveling the land – is complete and we are now focusing on building the mothering unit, a safe space for mother cats and their kittens.

Stay tuned for more updates as we build the 600+ cats a new space to call home.

Rescuing and rehabilitating brutally abused Spanish hunting dogs

Thousands of Spanish hunting dogs, called galgos, are bred for the hunting industry each year. Once they have served their “purpose,” the animals are either horrifically tortured and killed or abandoned and left to die on the streets. We work with Galgos del Sur to rescue and rehabilitate as many abandoned and abused Spanish hunting dogs as we can.

Thanks to our supporters’ generosity in March, we were able to help provide emergency medical care for ten newly rescued galgos, which included crucial health checks, vaccinations and sterilizations.

Kharkiv, Ukraine

Rebuilding a shelter for 381 animals after it was destroyed by a Russian drone strike

In late March, a devastating drone strike laid waste to a crucial animal shelter run by our partner, Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK) in Ukraine, leaving 381 animals at risk.

Through your support, we rushed emergency funds to repair the fences and other enclosures destroyed by the missile strike, ensuring the survival of hundreds of animal victims of war.
