Appeals in Action
Mityana, Uganda
Stopping scam dog shelters in Uganda
In Mityana, Uganda, fake dog shelters have been capturing strays or stealing pets, deliberately harming them and posting distressing videos on social media to solicit donations from kind-hearted animal lovers.
Thanks to increased global awareness – including a BBC documentary – authorities are cracking down on those responsible for this cruelty and many rescued dogs are being moved to safe care. Thanks to our supporters’ donations, dogs rescued from these scam shelters will receive critically needed food and medical care.

Nairobi, Kenya
Helping to rescue donkeys from illegal slaughter for the skin trade
Despite bans by the African Union and the Kenyan government, thousands of donkeys continue to be illegally killed in Kenya each year for ejiao – a gelatin used in traditional medicine and beauty products made from boiled-down donkey skins. Our partner, the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA), rescues donkeys from traffickers but urgently needs a dedicated animal ambulance to respond more quickly and transport rescued animals safely.
While we haven’t yet reached our fundraising target for the ambulance, we remain committed to supporting this goal – or meeting other critical needs as funding allows.

Herut, Israel
Giving injured donkey foal Inbar a second chance
Five-month-old donkey foal Inbar was brutally abused after being taken from her mother in southern Israel, leaving her with severe stab wounds and burns that require months of intensive treatment.
Thanks to our supporters, we raised enough to fund the next few months of Inbar’s food and veterinary care, giving her the best possible chance of a full recovery. We’re delighted to share that she is making excellent progress, with most of her wounds now healed and her bandages removed. She is continuing to recover under close supervision and is safely enjoying life at the sanctuary alongside her mother.

North Canterbury, New Zealand
Campaigning to bring an end to a cruel cat-killing competition
This month, the annual North Canterbury hunting competition returns to New Zealand, where participants compete for cash prizes by killing as many cats as possible.
With the support of our donors, we’re working with our partner, Cat Rescue Christchurch, to humanely protect feral cats through trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) programs. We’re also increasing advocacy and legal pressure to encourage the New Zealand government to take action against this cruel event and promote humane solutions for managing feral cat populations.
